My Beloved 02:51
Oh my beloved, for whom I have been so longing now that you have come and gone I see you more clearly and if by grace or mercy you may once again be near to me I pray that I will not be too blind to see

Less Control 04:46
Did I ever lose my mind Or was it the call of the divine Through broken phone or funhouse mirror Slap-back fuzz-wah somehow modulated? And if it’s lost where did it go? And where it goes who’s there to know? This is the body never-ending Given the reins of nothing known This is the call for less control This is the call for less control This is the call for less control This is the call for less control And where this goes Who’s there to know Follow the flow without a know I never would’ve known this circus and all the tricks there are to know I would not be so certain of uncertainties in this life I wonder what the bottom of the diamonds know you feel or if they know anything

Is this what I thought I’d say today To put down in this minute eternity While some I’ve known and loved have slipped away And outside the warmth keeps blowing away? Stopping waiting on the bridge Sitting breathing on the stone Watching the fish try to jump the fall Watching it fail and try again Into this world we walk alone Shadowing and thoughts and going Here it comes and goes again Here’s that windy day again I’m standing here out on the course Looking out and not seeing I’d gladly hold my hand out to yours Though I don’t know what you’d do with it Here’s another windy day And here it comes and goes again Here I am out on the shore I’m just sitting here waiting for the waves to roll Standing here out on the plain Listening to the wind again I recall you each and all Washing the weeds out in the rain Lying in the field This is not the song I meant to sing Trying to find my voice again Clarity and confusion Always moving never standing still Now that there is one more chance to speak again What have I forgotten to say? In this afterlife of sorts Will I just move through or reamplify? Repeating things to see if they make more sense the second time around

about

A song can be many things: A glimpse of the weather, a feeling of movement, a trip through physics, a call from across some untraversable space. The songs of Reflection Affection come from afar, linger near home, and drift off in the ether. They conjure images of twisted roots, backwards yawns, edges, the shadows that make us, nothing at all, and the hum of everything.

Tielli's songs are not like many songs today. They are not points to be made, tidy expressions, personal rants, letters to ex-lovers, epiphanies, or positive affirmations. These songs are more like questions, studies, or fleeting glimpses of moments in the vast ecology of being alive.

Reflection Affection explores a vast range of instruments, timbres, tones, techniques and arrangements. Double basses whistle and swoon, kalimbas plink and plonk, trombones slide and puff, voices mutter and call…all in some weird and wonderful accord, as if dreamed by separate dreamers lying side by side.
