Look At Me 03:29
Look at me straight in the eye I’m a foreign object who stayed open for love so she could roll straight through me like the light from a far off planet travels through time and space so that I could see your face Let's not be shy Oh no sink with me like a grain of salt into the sea schilliya schilliya I have an offer for you Look at … look at me I am a star shaking …. shaking … shaking like a leaf in your gaze Why have an eye if not to see? Why haven't I stayed up all night to open my eyes so I could see your face?

Body Can Do 03:12
Breathe like a fawn in the grass contemplating the dew if that’s what I gotta do that’s just what I’m gonna do Lips, hands, knees relax a certain body and mind combine to find the so sublime Say what you want about me, if you have the time come look and find Do you know what a body can do? Wanna know what a body can do? Have you been trying to live in the in-between cuz I keep on trying and trying and trying and I keep on getting the squeeze So it’s back to my twisted roots and my fallen leaves so my long lost shadow breathes Me and my crooked swans and my backwards yawns another day another try Do you know what a body can do? Do you know what a body can do? Wanna know what a body can do?

Ooo and nothing at all it’s me reminding of me an oasis shimmering and when just one thing shifts the thirsting and thirsted for spiral around and around be with me in this breeze lose ourselves in the sheets she brings me back to me and when the feeling’s known it all undergrows and leads me back into the wild Who am I to be lost in this affection? Who am I to be lost in this reflection? this is all that I see waiting weightlessly she drifts in with her ease but when the beetle breaks its back into brine then it feeds the sublime shake me round with your lady fingers make me wild with a useless abandon becoming an island of sea in flat out defiance of the grief that I found I won’t ever let down Who am I, to be lost in this affection? Who am I, to be lost in this reflection? I have waited my whole life on the edge of your embrace now as you see me I’m finally leaving, oh how now? How now?

Constance 04:39
Everywhere I go, everywhere I go everywhere I go I do want you to see me through from far to wide way out and deep inside and these folds and hollows which we traverse with reverence and reverberance dance I believe so will I be so out of sight this I know I won’t be so out of sight This I know is true, this I know is true, this I know is true There’s white sunlight streaming through the branches of the trees on this path that I walk along and there’s no far reaches that are far enough that one and others’ whispers cannot be heard I been here before, I been here before, I been here before
5.
The Morrow 05:04
In the light of the morrow the dark of night is the shore that follows us along no matter where I go In the morn I swim to the light in the noon the waves they are bright but never out of sight does the shoreline recede mmmmm Out of the fire in the dark jumps a spark that carves an arc that all of us will know And whose high call from afar that plants a seed in a star that all of us will know Let all of us be known Will all of us be known? Days bend, fires end this shifting earthly garden the stone smoothed and smoothed again is sand now The falling out and gathering in the gifts that shadows bring fear, pleasure, quaking Now that the fog has lifted the light of the day is falling down on all of us below The garden is old and I, with quiet ear, am young listening to the hum the hum of everything Listening to the power of the hum of everything

There’s no wandering road to lead you far away Stay here or follow solid or hollow This can’t be, if that won’t be There’s no wandering road to lead you far away
7.
Send me someone to love, send me someone to love, send me someone to love and hold send me someone who’ll love and hold me too And if they seek higher ground if she seeks higher ground if he seeks higher ground let it be higher ground beneath her feet And if it’s love that grows let it be love that grows let it be love that shows the way let it be love that all around we see I don’t want higher ground don’t want no higher ground I don’t want higher ground I want the very ground beneath my feet And if it’s all around let it be all around let it be all around me let it be all around and inside me Send me someone to love send me someone to love I want someone to love and hold send me someone who’ll love me too
8.
Everyone gathers around the child counting blessings with mercy mild Just why I came I do not know or maybe, maybe I do Though I burn bright inside and wonders deep in me abide and ancient music in dried up river beds travel neural pathways from my toes to my head I could spend a lifetime collecting beer cans and plastic bags from the beach grass on the south side of Toronto Island but what good would that do I’d better go inside and make friends with my destructive side Burn as I burn you’re the colour of my eyes and the sound of my childhood cries no matter matters no flame returns from ash my life is littered with these illusions Oh it may seem long, sometimes never ending the lifespan of this garden we’re tending The churning of earth, the gathering of steam, the chasm in waiting our footsteps receiving

Outro 03:15

about

A song can be many things: A glimpse of the weather, a feeling of movement, a trip through physics, a call from across some untraversable space. The songs of Reflection Affection come from afar, linger near home, and drift off in the ether. They conjure images of twisted roots, backwards yawns, edges, the shadows that make us, nothing at all, and the hum of everything.

Tielli's songs are not like many songs today. They are not points to be made, tidy expressions, personal rants, letters to ex-lovers, epiphanies, or positive affirmations. These songs are more like questions, studies, or fleeting glimpses of moments in the vast ecology of being alive.

Reflection Affection explores a vast range of instruments, timbres, tones, techniques and arrangements. Double basses whistle and swoon, kalimbas plink and plonk, trombones slide and puff, voices mutter and call…all in some weird and wonderful accord, as if dreamed by separate dreamers lying side by side.
